KALAHARI VASBYT 2015

It is important to be aware that the Kalahari Vasbyt is not a survival course. Excellent balanced meals will be provided in order to help you perform at your optimum, as the Vasbyt is an intense physical and emotionally challenging leadership course.

We start on 2 January so you will be on your own on New Year.

Since 1987 the Kalahari Vasbyt has had an immense impact on the lives of many young men. The course is physically and spiritually challenging, but the scientific basis on which the course is structured ensures that you learn to become disciplined and physically fit without being humiliated in any way. It will most probably be the best holiday of your life. Nothing will be expected of you which the tour leaders do not also partake in.

The Kalahari Vasbyt is a subsidised course. Funds are carefully administered and any monies which you pay (inclusive of our sponsors) are utilised for the participants’ benefit. We believe that young men who have a dream to make a difference in the world, should really participate on this course. It will give you a distinct advantage in life which will be extremely difficult for others to surpass.

The fishermen will also have their chance to show their mettle on the Kwando River and the Okavango Delta.

Our course will begin on 2 January 2014 at 09h00 from the O.R. Tambo Airport in Johannesburg. You will still be able to enjoy Christmas and New Year with your family and friends.

We will also visit the Caprivi after attempting to tame the waters of the mighty Zambezi. During January this area teems with Springbok, Blue Wildebeest, Gemsbok (Oryx) and predators such as Lion and the endangered brown Hyena. (Only approximately every 10 years are there relatively few animals to be seen).

By applying for this course you commit yourself to working hard and making a great success of it. If you are not interested and extremely committed, you are advised to rather stay at home. If you apply you will have to participate.

Although we did allow younger participants to apply in previous years, we recommend that you are at least 15, and not older than 18 years of age. We find that the participants who are beginning their Grade 11 derive the most benefit. We do also allow participants in their matric year but recommend Gr 11.

The cost of this tour will be R15 980-00. This includes all meals, transport and activities such as White Water Rafting and Bungi Jumping - the Victoria Falls are also included. This alone costs more than R2000-00 per person, but is included in the price. It is further a stipulated requirement that you may not take more than R800-00 personal spending money with you.

The tour is full of unexpected surprises. It is important to remember that you are ensured of returning extremely fit. You will further be expected to abide by the attached principles. Bear in mind that this is more of a field guide course as opposed to a normal holiday.

On this tour we do not drink or smoke at all, and this applies to me as well. We endure hardships together and have fun together, but those that are a little older than 40, have a slightly easier time during PT! What you eat and drink, applies to us as well. When there are refreshments, the adults will only have if there are any refreshments left over, and with regards to meals, the adults wait until last. There are no bungalows or special facilities for the adults. If any luxury privileges are granted, you will most certainly also be afforded the same privileges. This is the spirit of the Kalahari Vasbyt and is our only promise to you.

If you are a young man with character who would like to experience true adventure, to drive long distances in the veld, to learn about the area, and would like to stand out above the rest, this course is probably just what you have been waiting for.
