EUROPE TRAIN TOUR MARCH/APRIL 2011 |
|---|
After having done fourteen June tours we decided in 2006 to undertake an April tour and it was fantastic! Within two years this tour has become even more popular than the very popular June tour. A maximum of 30 teenagers will be able to go on the tour. This already makes it a much more intimate tour than the larger one in June. European trains are super fast and very comfortable. We sometimes travel at more than 300 km/h. The distance between cities is covered rapidly and although we have seats and not sleeping bunks, we frequently have the opportunity of stretching ourselves across three seats to sleep comfortably. |

Andries Erwee will be the tour leader. He is the father of two daughters and has been in charge of more than 40 youth tours under the auspices of Die Burger and Temba. He has a very good understanding of the younger generation and they get along with him well. He is also an educator who knows Europe well and uses the best educational techniques to contribute a great deal to the formation of the younger generation. Throughout the tour there is a fine balance between spare time and visiting the attractions. You see everything of importance, but no more than what you can remember. And the choice of attractions is aimed at people of your own age. |

You will not be treated like a child and the whole day is not devoted to the finer details of a history in which you may not necessarily be interested. We know that people learn most by means of experience and this is why we afford you plenty of time to see and experience Europe on your own. The accommodation is relatively central. If your tour leader is not really interested in the night life, there is nothing to prevent you from exploring safe places on your own. There is a support vehicle on this tour. You don't need to take your luggage with you on the trains. Never the less, you are restricted to 13 kg of luggage at departure and 19 kg on the return flight. We need the extra space on the flights for equipment. It is our policy on this tour to treat you as a grown-up in as far as you will allow us to do so. You will experience this from day one and find you have plenty of free time and plenty of humour on tour. But we also understand that parents expect us to act responsibly and so we'll do all that is necessary to satisfy their expectations. There are some basic rules and those who think of transgressing these are kindly requested not to apply for this tour. Actions that would derail the tour for yourself and others around you cannot be tolerated. On this tour there will also be ample time for shopping. But you need to remember that everything you buy, you will need to carry. Fortunately you will not need to devote any of the allotted 13 kg for food utensils, as is the case in June. For those who will be in Gr 9 to 12 in 2010 (15 to 18 years old) and look forward to undertaking a civilised tour to Europe, this experience promises to be a highlight in your life. Summary of the programme: 16 nights and 17 days. 3 Nights London Hostel 3 Nights Paris Hostel 3 Nights Lucern Hostel 2 Nights Venice Chalet 3 Nights Rome Chalets 2 Nights on the aircraft.
